Using our dedicated terrain table (see our terrain page), we ran a scenario that summed Sherlock Holmes was on the trail of the famed serial killer, Jack the Ripper. Sherlock Holmes and Watson, accompanied by a contingent of “Bobbies”, started the game at the cemetery gate, while Inspector Lestrade and some men arrived near the front door of an abandoned church on the far side of the cemetery. Jack, Col. Moran, Professor Moriarty, Irene Adler, along with some “minions,” were deployed through the graveyard. The goal was simple. Jack had several “ladies of ill repute” locked in the church basement. The forces of law and order were required to stop Jack from reaching those women and bring the Ripper to justice. We used a variation of Crooked Dice Miniatures’ 7TV rules. The game started well enough for Holmes, as he pulled a TRIP event card that sent Jack sprawling to the ground. This allowed Holmes and Watson to close in for the arrest. It didn’t help the forces of evil that Col. Moran’s rifle jammed. Yet, by using henchmen as sacrificial lambs, Jack was able to crawl to safety, although not before spraining his ankle and reducing his movement rate to half. A stick of dynamite thrown by an anarchist also helped, as it knocked Holmes to the ground and Watson and police struggled to keep henchmen from killing the vulnerable hero.
On the far side of the graveyard, Inspector Lestrade discovered he’d brought the Keystone Cops with him. Not a single police officer seemed capable of shooting straight or knocking down a criminal, despite the fact that the police had a re-roll capability in melee. In the end, Lestrade and his Bobbies had their heads caved in with clubs, while Moriarty and Adler didn’t even have to fire a weapon. Constantly dealing with Bobbies wielding a baton, the Ripper barely moved throughout the game, his time spent struggling simply to avoid being handcuffed by police. It seemed hopeless as the Bobbies quickly overcame Jack’s henchmen and held Col. Moran at bay, but then Jack realized that some of the men around him were HIS men. Having dealt with Lestrade, Moriarty and Adler arrived to the rescue, freeing the Ripper to hobble to the church and deal with his final victims. In the end, Watson was seriously wounded, Lestrade was dead, and while most of the evil henchmen were down or handcuffed, the four evil “heroes” escaped into the darkness. An Evil victory.
